Vilnius logs

Vilnius is one of the greenest European capitals, yet even here wild nature is often treated as a backdrop for movement rather than a place to stay. In forests, on slopes and along river valleys, I kept noticing the same thing: there are surprisingly few simple spots where you can stop, sit down, and observe the landscape as it is - unmanicured, unframed, and truly alive. To address this, I am creating eight site-specific functional objects in Pavilniai Regional Park, placing them not “on the way,” but in carefully chosen locations for their views and atmosphere: hillsides, panoramas, and quieter corners near the Vilnelė, Antakalnis and Markučiai. The project is built around observation-inviting people to listen, look, and experience an imperfect Anthropocene nature where the city fades and wind, birds, terrain lines (and sometimes distant trains) take over. The objects intentionally resemble stacked logs, referencing clear-cutting and using firewood-grade timber that would otherwise be burned, giving it a second life as durable public infrastructure. Though they look raw and natural, they are engineered to be safe and comfortable for 2-8 people - a subtle, respectful intervention that supports the landscape instead of “tidying” it into a standard park.

Work in progress and will be completed by autumn 2026.
